THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
The Phantom Of The Opera
Of all of his stage creations, “Phantom”
remains the jewel in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s crown. The production dominated
Broadway and The West End for decades. It has endured immense popularity with
audiences. To this day, it is one of the longest running musicals in London and New York.
Various performers have portrayed the title character, but the role
was immortalized by Michael Crawford. He was previously best remembered for his acting in films and television, but remains the definitive Phantom.
The title song has a strong
sense of foreboding while simultaneously being mysteriously alluring. It features vocals from both The
Phantom and Christine and is heard during Act One. A single recorded by Sarah Brightman and Steve Harley reached the UK Top 10 in 1986.
