#420 DISCO INFERNO the Trammps
The Trammps formed in 1973. The Philly group's 1st American chart entry was a remake of "Zing Went the Strings of my Heart". The Trammps cracked the US Top 40 in 1976 with "Hold Back The Night". Follow-up "That's Where The Happy People Go" fared even better, peaking at #27. The group's biggest hit was "Disco Inferno". Upon its initial release, the song only climbed to #53. Then, "... Inferno" was included on the phenomenal 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack album.
The song was written by Leroy Green and the group's keyboardist Ron Kersey. The latter also produced the track. A version running for just under 11 minutes appeared on the 'Disco Inferno' and the soundtrack albums.
The success of '... Fever' led to the single's re-release in 1978. This time, "... Inferno" peaked at #11 in the USA. Despite the track's enduring popularity, the disc did not chart high in other territories. In 1980, the group broke up. Lead singer Jerry Ellis died in 2012, aged 74, from complications related to his Alzheimer's disease.
This
is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I
cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks.
Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have
universal appeal.
They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal
choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a
better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2
new songs are added each day (every 12 hours) with a mid-week bonus
every Wednesday.
