#441 TOUCH ME The Doors
The Doors released their most commercial single in 1968 with a track from their 'the Soft Parade' LP, entitled "Touch Me". The hit song was penned by the group's guitarist Robby Krieger. Paul A. Rothchild produced the recording. 
Forming in L.A. in 1965, The Doors signed with Elektra the following year. By 1967, their place in rock history was assured with the release of the influential '60s classic "Light My Fire". The single reached #1 in America. Other hits followed, including "People Are Strange" and "Love Me Two Times" before a 2nd US chart-topper, "Hello I Love You" in 1968.
"Touch Me" was its follow-up. It peaked at #3 in America and #1 in Canada. Ray Manzarek's organ dominates the track, complemented with percussion that is part rock and part Motown. There are horns, strings and, of course, Jim Morrison's towering vocals. 
On July 3, 1971, Morrison was found dead in a bathtub in Paris. The group struggled on without its charismatic lead singer, but broke up in 1973. Manzarek died of cancer in 2013 aged 74. Kreiger and John Densmore are the last 2 remaining members.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
