CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

Mid-week bonus - 1 new song will be added every 6 hours throughout today
#409 KOKOMO The Beach Boys
Despite not visiting the US Top 10 since 1976, or reaching #1 there after 1966, The Beach Boys struck back with a global hit in 1988. Terry Melcher was producing the legendary group and approached Touchstone / Disney with the song "Kokomo". John Phillips of Mamas & The Papas fame created the word and co-wrote the song with Melcher,  group member Mike Love and Scott McKenzie. The latter scored a 'Summer of Love' anthem in 1967 with the single "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)". "Kokomo" was used in the film 'Cocktail' which starred Tom Cruise and Bryan Brown. Lead vocal duties are shared by Love and Carl Wilson. The latter's brother, Brian Wilson was absent; working as a soloist.
"Kokomo" introduced a younger demographic to the Beach Boys' music. Its hook was infectious and the song easily attracted sales. The single reached #1 in the USA and Australia. In Britain, the disc peaked at #25. It made the Top 10 in Europe and Canada.
In 1998, Carl died of cancer. After much litigation, the key surviving members re-united for live concerts in 2011. An album of all-new material, entitled "That's Why God Made the Radio", emerged the following year.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
