CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS

#102 MY LITTLE TOWN Simon & Garfunkel
The duo Simon & Garfunkel parted ways at its peak, with the classic album 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. Both Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel began recording solo albums around 1972. Years later, the former began writing a song for the latter's upcoming LP.
Simon penned "My Little Town'; based around the idea of a person needing to break out of his small town. When Garfunkel came to start work on the song, the 2 began harmonizing. The former then suggested they record it together.
"My Little Town" was recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Both Simon and Garfunkel co-produced, along with Phil Ramone. Treated as a new song for the duo, the track appeared on the 2 artists' new albums: Garfunkel's 'Breakaway' and Simon's 'Still Crazy After All These Years'; both unleashed in October 1975.
Released as a single, "My Little Town" reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 AC. The disc also charted in Spain, Australia, the Netherlands and New Zealand. This whet the appetite of fans hoping for a more permanent reunion.
The 2 performers recorded together in 1977, collaborating with James Taylor on a remake of Sam Cooke's "(What A) Wonderful World". This single returned Simon & Garfunkel to #1 on the AC chart in early 1978.
In 1981, the duo re-formed for a one-off concert in New York before 500,000 fans. The event in Central Park spawned a TV special and successful live album. In the early 1980s, Simon & Garfunkel re-united for a world tour. A studio album was in the works, but never emerged as tensions between the 2 re-surfaced.
Their relationship was still sour when the duo was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. They toured again 3 years later, but differences re-emerged. In 2003, Simon & Garfiunkel earned a Lifetime Achievement Award Grammy, where they performed "The Sound Of Silence". A lucrative American and European tour followed. They re-united again in 2009 for a tour of Australia and Asia. The possibility of future concerts is now more likely.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the Top 2000 is added each day, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
