CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS

#112 SAVING ALL MY LOVE FOR YOU Whitney Houston
Few would be aware that Whitney Houston's was not the 1st recording of the torch song "Saving All My Love For You". Michael Masser co-wrote the ballad with Gerry Goffin in the 1970s. The original version was cut by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis. The married couple had previously been in the group The Fifth Dimension. After they left that group, they continued working as a duo. Their version of "Saving..." was included on the 'Marilyn & BIlly' album which was released in 1978.
Houston, signed to Arista Records, was matched with Masser as the producer of some tracks that were selected for her debut solo LP. Another Masser ballad, "Greatest Love Of All", had already been earmarked for inclusion. Masser ended up with 2 other songs on the album: "All At Once" and "Hold Me". The latter was a duet with Teddy Pendergrass. Masser produced all 4 tracks.  Tom Scott performed the sax solo heard on the cut. Masser's production and Houston's delivery now overshadow the original by McCoo and Davis.
The eponymous album was issued in 1985. "Saving..." was chosen as the follow-up single after the success of "You Give Good Love" during the same year. In the USA, the single topped the Pop, R&B and AC charts. It also reached #1 in the UK.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the Top 200 is added each day, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
