#108 AFRICA Toto
The only continent to have a global hit song named after it is Africa. Toto enjoyed massive success with its "Africa" in 1982, a track lifted off the ' Toto IV' album. The song was written by the group's keyboardist David Paich and drummer Jeff Porcaro. The former handled lead vocals. He also performed background vocals, along with band mates Bobby Kimball. Steve Lukather and guest Timothy B. Schmit (of the groups Poco and The Eagles). The track was produced by Toto. 
In early 1983, "Africa" reached #1 in America. The disc peaked at #3 in the UK and also made the Top 10 in Australia, parts of Europe, Canada and New Zealand. That year, Toto scooped the pool at the Grammy Awards. 
Sadly, the group failed to maintain the momentum from their big sweep. "I Won't Hold You Back", the follow-up for "Africa" and a 4th single taken from 'Toto IV', was the band's final Top 10. In 1986, Toto peaked at #11 with "I'll Be Over You" from its 'Fahrenheit' LP (its last Top 20 entry in the USA). "Pamela", issued 2 years later, became Toto's final Top 40 hit.
The group persevered, enduring a series of line-up changes. Bobby Kimball quit shortly after the success of "Africa". In 1992, Jeff Porcaro died of a heart attack. Kimball rejoined Toto in 1999. The band still tours and records.
 
This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
