HOLD ME NOW
JOHNNY LOGAN
Ireland- 1987
Johnny Logan became “Mr Eurovision” following his return to the ESC in 1987. He had won back in 1980 with “What’s Another Year?”; ahead of the German entry in 2nd place. His career had stalled in the years since and Logan represented Ireland again 7 years later; this time with a self-penned ballad entitled “Hold Me Now”. The song trounced all the other competitors on the night and continued its success on charts around Europe and beyond. Logan became the only act to win Eurovision twice. Again, Germany finished as runner-up to his song. Logan’s ESC story didn’t end there. As if winning twice was not enough, he wrote “Why Me?”, the victorious Irish entry 5 years later. The Australian-born singer has contributed significantly to Ireland’s success at Eurovision; being directly involved in 3 of the 7 wins for the Emerald Isle.

Another update coming tomorrow.
