Rock
'n roll was now played on new technology: stereo records for phonographs and also tapes. The expanding genre still had its detractors, but its audience continued to widen. The market offered new teen idols. Controversy exploded as details of Jerry Lee Lewis marrying his teen cousin became known. This severely hampered the rock pioneer's career. Elvis Presley was drafted into the US army. Little Richard was giving up rock 'n roll to serve God.
