TONIGHT AGAIN
GUY SEBASTIAN
Australia -2015
In 2015, Australia was
invited to compete –and vote- at Eurovision. The contest has been very popular
in the country for many decades. Its inclusion was to mark Eurovision’s 60th
anniversary and is officially a
1-off. There is some talk that Australia may be able to remain in the ESC.
Either way, its participation saw the 1st entry from the Southern
hemisphere at Eurovision, a long, long way from Europe. If Australia remains a
regular entry, 2015 will mark a turning point for the contest. Some argue that
the ESC risks losing its Eurocentric focus. There is speculation that a new
nation may be invited each year. It is rumoured that China will compete in
2016. Some others argue that Eurovision will be strengthened if it becomes a
more international event. Whatever happens, Australia’s debut remains a radical
shift.
