#2
EUROVISION’S
GREATEST
RUNNERS-UP
Each
year, the Eurovision Song Contest pits nations against each other, vying for a
victory. Since 1956, the ESC has thrown up several unforgettable winning
entries, but what about the songs that came close but finished in second place?
Caffé Latté ranks 40 of the past 62 runners-up that still deserve special
recognition.

BEAUTIFUL MESS
KRISTIAN KOSTOV
BULGARIA / 2017
Bulgaria began sending strong contenders to Eurovision in 2016, starting with "If Love Was A Crime". The following year, Kristian Kostov gave his homeland its highest ranking ever with the well-crafted pop song "Beautiful Mess".

HORA
AVI TOLEDANO
ISRAEL / 1982
Israel finished in second place in 1982 and 1983. "Hora" was an upbeat celebratory entry.

I EVIGHET
ELISABETH ANDREASSEN
NORWAY / 1996
Norway did not stray too far from its previous year's winning entry "Nocturne" by Secret Garden for Eurovision in 1996. "I Evighet" (For Eternity) almost repeated the success of the 1995 song, but Ireland continued its domination of Eurovision, winning with "The Voice".

PAS POUR MOI
DANIELLA SIMMONS
SWITZERLAND / 1986
When the actual age of the singer of the 1986 winning song was revealed (13 and therefore in breach of the rules), Switzerland challenged the victory. Sandra Kim had claimed to be older and within the age restrictions. The appeal failed, resulting in a #2 ranking for the Swiss entry "Pas Pour Moi" (Not For Me). Daniella Simmons performed the song in French.

SU CANCION
BETTY MISSIEGO
SPAIN / 1979
Performed in Spanish, the title of Spain's entry "Su Cancion" translates as "Your Song". It finished a few points behind the triumphant Israeli entry "Hallelujah".
