BLACK SMOKE

GERMANY 2015
As one of the “Big 5” countries, Germany
automatically pre-qualifies for the ESC Grand Final. Anyone assuming that gives
German entries an advantage need only see the scoreboards for 2015 and 2016.
Germany finished last in both years. In the former Contest, “Black Smoke” shared
that misfortune with Austria.

I AM YOURS

AUSTRIA 2015
After Conchita Wurst’s triumph with “Rise
Like A Phoenix” in 2014, Vienna was the Eurovision host city the following year.
As a result, “I Am Yours” pre-qualified for the Grand Final. By evening’s end,
Austria shared the same fate as Germany: nil points. Not even setting fire to
the piano saved the ballad. It did deserve to finish higher.
