Kate Bush

Incredibly, the first British female to top the UK chart with her own composition did not accomplish this until 1978. Even more remarkable was the fact that the song was her debut single, written while the performer was still in her teens. That feat became a reality with the arrival of Kate Bush and her brilliant hit “Wuthering Heights”. The disc was lifted off her first studio album, ‘The Kick Inside’. Bush proved that she was no one-hit wonder with the quality and depth evident in the LP’s tracks. The young rising talent wowed critics and the public with her gift as a songwriter. This teen’s unique approach drew from prog, art rock, pop and folk music. Bush influenced artists as diverse as Bjork, Tori Amos, Liz Phair, Sinead O’Connor, Alanis Morissette and Fiona Apple.
