100 SONGS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

1977

đź’Ą59 I Feel Love

Donna Summer

Donna Summer – I Feel Love (1977, Vinyl) - DiscogsDonna Summer’s ‘I Remember Yesterday’ was a concept album. It was a disco-fied throwback to music genres of the past (for example “Back In Love Again” is a nod to The Supremes). The idea was for the closing track to represent the future. Although written by Summer with Pete Bellotte and Giorgio Moroder, it is the latter who gave the track immortality. As producer, he applied all of his skill with the synthesizer to realize his vision of what music would sound like in the future. It was before its time in 1977. The track is still influential decades later. Moroder’s prediction proved to be on target. Summer’s vocal is the perfect accompaniment to the heavenly sounds created by the synthesizer. Instantly, the track went beyond disco. It ushered in a new direction for electronic dance music. “I Feel Love” went on to inspire house, techno, Hi-NRG and trance; genres that were unimaginable when Summer’s track was recorded. The unique disc also inspired contemporaries such as Brian Eno, David Bowie and The Human League.
