1965
Eurovision was inspired by the annual Sanremo Italian Song Contest. After claiming victory in 1964, Naples was appropriately chosen as the host city. This was also the tenth Eurovision Song Contest. Sweden returned and 1964 saw the debut of Ireland. Finally, Eurovision reflected the fresher sounds of contemporary pop.
POUPÉE DE CIRE, POUPÉE DE SON
France Gall
Luxembourg
Serge Gainsbourg injected modern pop into Eurovision with his song about a “Wax Doll, Singing Doll” proving that a trendy song could claim first prize. France Gall was only 17 at the time.
I BELONG Kathy Kirby
United Kingdom
Second place went to another modern song performed by popular TV star and singer Kathy Kirby. Eurovision was finally reflecting the shifting musical tastes, with the UK represented by one of its most popular performers.
I’M WALKING THE STREETS IN THE RAIN
Butch Moore

Ireland made its debut in 1965. It finished in sixth place with this entry, but the country would go on to achieve more Eurovision wins than any other nation. To this day, its record of 7 victories remains unbeaten.
