ELVIS PRESLEY- The 100 Most Essential Songs (#2). Continues: tomorrow.
Caffè Lattè presents:
THE 100 MOST ESSENTIAL SONGS BY
ELVIS
Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi in 1935. His family relocated to Memphis, where the teenager absorbed the blues, gospel and country music. Young Elvis cut records for personal use and came to the attention of Sun Records. Sam Phillips recognized potential in the youth: a white singer with a ‘black’ sound. From these humble origins, Elvis influenced countless other white rockers and achieved sales that were unprecedented.
These 100 songs corroborate that Presley is the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll”…

CAN’T HELP FALLING IN LOVE
Elvis served in the army in Europe and that continent’s music attracted his attention. Once his tour of duty was over, he returned to America and resumed his recording and acting career. One of these projects was the film ‘Blue Hawaii’. Its soundtrack included a song that was based on the French melody “Plaisir D’amour”.
The timing was perfect for Elvis as he approached recording “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. While in Europe, he had met and fallen for young Priscilla Beaulieu. The two would eventually marry in 1967 and have a daughter (Lisa Marie Presley) together.
In 1962, the single peaked at #2 in America and made the chart summit in Britain. Parent album ‘Blue Hawaii’ reached #1 in the U.S. where the soundtrack reigned for 20 weeks and for 18 weeks in the United Kingdom.
