CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#337 THIS WILL BE Natalie Cole
Being the daughter of Nat "King" Cole meant that Natalie had a tough act to follow. Her father was 1 of the greatest vocalists of the 20th Century. His girl was born in 1950 in L.A. She began performing at 11 years of age. In 1973, Natalie Cole met up with writer/ producers Charles "Chuck" Jackson and Marvin Yancy. The 2 men were looking for a new act to work with. Their recording with Natalie led to her signing with her deceased father's label, Capitol Records.
The 2 men wrote and produced "This Will Be" for Cole. Yancy played piano on the session. The track proved to be a strong breakthrough disc. It reached #6 Pop & made #1 on the R&B Chart in the US in 1975. The single fared well overseas too, peaking at #32, 12 and 28 in Britain, Canada and Australia respectively. The song was a track on her 1975 debut album 'Inseparable'. "This Will Be" helped Natalie collect Grammy Awards for Best R&B  Vocal Performance (Female) and Best New Talent.
Her subsequent successes included a further 4 R&B chart topping singles, the hits "Pink Cadillac" in 1985 and, in 1991, "Unforgettable" -a duet with her father (posthumously featuring him). Natalie continues to perform and record. Her most recent release was a Spanish album in 2013.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
