With its simplistic approach, this rollicking song from Elton John's songbook shuffles along, but "Sad Songs" is anything but a sad tune. Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics and John composed the music. Chris Thomas produced the track which was included on the pianist's 'Breaking Hearts' album. 
Issued as the LP's lead single in 1984, the disc enjoyed widespread appeal, reaching the Top 10 in numerous territories including Britain, America, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Norway and Switzerland.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice.
