CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#350 DARK LADY Cher
The original lyrics of "Dark Lady" had the narrator discovering her man in bed with the psychic in the title. Cher's producer Snuff Garrett thought that the ending needed alteration. He contacted the song's writer John Durrill and asked for new lyrics. Now, the song, as Cher recorded it, sees the protagonist finding her man with the dark lady and shooting them both dead.
The single was the title track from her 1974 album. It became Cher's 3rd #1 solo single in the USA. The disc also peaked at #2 in Canada, made the Top 20 in Australia and climbed to #36 in the UK. While her chart fortunes have been inconsistent since then, Cher has reinvented her sound and image several times and continued appearing on the Top 40 in subsequent decades.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
