CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#351 MRS. ROBINSON Simon & Garfunkel
"Mrs. Robinson" by the duo Simon & Garfunkel was written especially for the motion picture 'The Graduate', a hit film from 1968. Paul Simon penned the hit. The film starred Dustin Hoffman as Ben Braddock. The song is named after the character portrayed by Anne Bancroft, who seduces the young man who is in love with her daughter.
The film's director, Mike Nichols, asked Simon to write the film score. He had already temporarily inserted various Simon & Garfunkel songs where he would later replace them with the score once it was completed. As time passed, Nichols decided those songs ought to remain. These included: "The Sound of Silence", "Scarborough Fair / Canticle", "April Come She Will" and "The Big Bright Green Pleasure Machine". The only new song Nichols used was "Mrs. Robinson".
The hit began life as an incomplete instrumental before Nichols had asked for the song. Garfunkel came up with the idea of using the character's name as part of the lyrics to the instrumental and inspired Simon to complete the song. The 2 versions featured on the soundtrack differ from the final cut that was included on the duo's 1968 album (released around the time of the film's success) 'Bookends'. Simon co-produced this hit single with Art Garfunkel and Roy Halee. The song reached #1 in America, 4 in Britain and went Top 10 in Australia. The hit song won the Record of the Year Grammy Award for 1968.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
