CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

Mid-week bonus - 1 new song will be added every 8 hours throughout today
#346 SOMEWHERE Barbra Streisand
Barbra Streisand's 'The Broadway Album' mined the Stephen Sondheim songbook, with 7 of its tracks written by the esteemed Broadway lyricist and composer. Indeed, 2 songs selected for this best seller were from the hit show "West Side Story": "Something's Coming" and "Somewhere".
The latter was the final song in the timeless musical. Leonard Bernstein composed the music and Sondheim wrote the lyrics. While sung in a context of grief and loss, its verses hope for a better future. It instantly became an anthem for many minorities.
It was Streisand's idea to give the classic song a new setting. David Foster produced and arranged this track, placing the song in a context that is space when recorded in 2 studios in California. He also contributed keyboards and synthesizer on the cut. This was the lead single from the LP and 1 of the reasons it reached #1 on the Albums Chart in 1985.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
