CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#344 AFTER DARK Pattie Brooks
Pattie Brooks is a disco artist that was born in Kansas. In 1977, she contributed background vocals on Donna Summer's 'I Remember Yesterday' album. Brooks' own chart success was limited to the US Disco Chart in the years 1977-79. Her first entry consisted of 4 tracks, 1 of which featured a medley of covers entitled  "Pop College". That disc, credited to Pattie Brooks and the Simon Orchestra, peaked at #2 for 2 weeks. In 1978, she reached #1 on the same chart as part of a release containing 4 songs from the 'Thank God It's Friday' film soundtrack.  The movie was dreadful, but its music had some highlights. Along with Donna Summer's tracks "Last Dance" and "With Your Love", there was Diana Ross' "Lovin' Livin' and Givin'", the title song by Love and Kisses and Brooks' "After Dark".
Released on Casablanca Records, "After Dark" was written by Simon Soussan and Sabrina Soussan. The forner handled production. The soundtrack version runs for almost 8 minutes. The label edited the track for release as a single.
Following up that success proved too difficult. "Our Ms. Brooks" went Top 40 in 1978 but "Got Tu Go Disco" the following year only peaked at #67 on the Disco Chart. It was to be her final hit until a 2006 remix of "After Dark" charted. Brooks' daughter Yvette Marina was a member of the funk group Mary Jane Girls.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
