#203 DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER Shirley Bassey
Sean Connery had relinquished the role of James Bond in 1967's 'You Only Live Twice'. George Lazenby portrayed 007 in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' 2 years later. Connery was back, however, in 1971; in time for 'Diamonds Are Forever'. Also back singing the title song was Shirley Bassey who, in the 3rd movie of the franchise back in 1964, sang "Goldfinger".
"Diamonds are Forever" was composed by John Barry with lyrics from Don Black. The title song was issued as a single in 1971. It reached #38 in Britain and #57 in the USA. Bassey's rendition remains 1 of the most beloved of the Bond songs. She returned to do the honours for a 3rd time in 1979 for 'Moonraker'. No other performer has sung as many Bond songs.
This
is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I
cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks.
Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have
universal appeal.
They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal
choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a
better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song is added each day.
