#193 WHERE IS THE LOVE? Black Eyed Peas featuring Justin Timberlake
The Black Eyed Peas formed in 1995. Will. i. am and apl.de.ap met while in high school and had worked as part of a breakdancing crew. They decided to pursue musical ambitions and, after recruiting Taboo, evolved into The Black Eyed Peas. After trying a variety of female vocalists, the group added Fergie to the lineup. Around this time, the BEP's music was heading in a more accessible direction. Their 1st album with Fergie was released in 2003. 'Elephunk' contained the track "Where is the Love?".
For this new song, the BEP invited Justin Timberlake to be a guest vocalist. It was a largely uncredited collaboration so as not to compete with the soloist's own singles at the time. The track was written by will.i.am (Will Adams), Timberlake, Taboo (Jaime Gomez), apl,de.ap (Allen Pineda), Printz Board, Michael Fratantuno, George Pajon Jr and J. Curtis. The track was produced by will.i.am with Ron Fair.
"Where..." became the "What's Going On" of the first decade of the 21st century. It struck a chord all over the world, reaching #1 in the US, UK, Australia, Europe and New Zealand in 2003. This smash initiated a string of hits that continues to this day. Subsequent chart successes included: "Shut Up", "Don't Phunk With My Heart", "My Humps", "Boom Boom Pow", "The Time (Dirty Bit)" and "I Gotta Feeling.
Fergie and will.i.am have also launched solo careers and side projects. Timberlake too, has seen his own career continue to flourish, spawning hits such as "SexyBack", "LoveStoned", "Suit & Tie", "Mirrors" and "Love Never Felt So Good" (a posthumous duet with Michael Jackson).
This
is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I
cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks.
Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have
universal appeal.
They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal
choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a
better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A
new song from the Top 200 is added each day, while another 2 are also
included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours
for
an update of the 2000.
