picture)- so no songs from “West Side Story”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Les
Miserables” or “The Sound Of Music” and other films that first started out as
stage musicals.

Diana Ross & Lionel Richie
(‘Endless Love’- 1981)
Lionel Richie composed the tender ballad "Endless Love". Diana Ross joined him on the hit duet. The romantic drama starred Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt. The song was nominated for an Academy Award and topped the charts in America, Canada and Australia. In the UK, the track peaked at #7.

Frankie Valli
(‘Grease’- 1978)
Barry Gibb wrote "Grease" for the film adaptation of the hit musical. The title song was a solo smash for Frankie Valli, reaching #1 in the USA and peaking at #3 in Britain.

Elton John
(‘The Lion King’- 1994)
Disney had a major hit on its hands with the animated film 'The Lion King'. Elton John composed the music for Tim Rice's lyrics and created some excellent tracks, including "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?". The ballad won an Oscar and reached the Top 10 all over the world. It remains 1 of John's best known songs.

(‘Fame’- 1980)
Irene Cara's title song from the musical 'Fame' is an iconic song capturing passionate ambition and determination. The track made the Top 10 in America, Canada, parts of Europe and in Australia. It won the Oscar for Best Original Song. The movie spawned a TV series which led to "Fame" reaching #1 in Britain in 1982.

Idina Menzel
(‘Frozen’- 2013)
Idina Menzel was cast as Elsa in the Disney animated musical and sang "Let It Go". Demi Lovato's version was also heard (over the closing credits) in 'Frozen'. The song collected the Academy Award and charted in several countries.
