THE DIARY OF: ALICIA KEYS
The Diary Of Alicia Keys album cover.jpg
 [2003]
A sophomore album is often tricky. When your debut album was as highly lauded as Alicia Keys' 2001 'Songs in A Minor' was, expectations can be high. Fortunately, Keys possessed the talent to not only remain grounded but offer some surprises for 'The Diary Of Alicia Keys' 2 years later. Keys is neo-soul's Roberta Flack with an underrated song craft. This album showcases her many moods and the range in her voice. "If I Ain't Got You" is the big hit here. "You Don't Know My Name" is a fun and somewhat humorous scenario of a woman asking out a man over the phone. "Harlem's Nocturne" is a beautiful opening piece. It leads us into the stunning "Karma". Delve deeper into the album and discover other delights; among them: "Heartburn", "Wake Up", "Slow Down" and "Samsonite Man". Lyrically, "Diary" takes the idea of a companion being like a diary page one confides secrets to. Keys has had enough to talent to deliver with each new album thus far, making each new release worthy of a listen. Highlight tracks: Karma; If I Ain't Got You & Wake Up.
