& pop acts since the start of the Rock Era in 1955.

association with a film from the last 60 years (although some exceptions do
exist where the song gained a higher profile after its use in a motion
picture)- so no songs from “West Side Story”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Les
Miserables” or “The Sound Of Music” and other films that first started out as
stage musicals.

SKYFALL

#33
LAST DANCE
Donna Summer
(‘Thank God It's Friday’- 1978)
In the wake of the success of 'Saturday Night Fever' another disco-themed film sounded like a no-brainer; but there was little plot in 'Thank God It's Friday' and its soundtrack lacked the quality tracks The Bee Gees created for the former. The major redeeming feature was Donna Summer's classic disco song "Last Dance". Its title made it a frequently used closer for a night of dancing and partying. Its Academy Award win marked a turning point: finally, a contemporary upbeat (and disco) song had been selected as a winner, ahead of the customary ballad fare. That was definitely something no song from 'Saturday Night Fever' managed to accomplish.
#34
LOVE ME LIKE YOU DO
Ellie Goulding
(‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’- 2015)
