QUEEN : A NIGHT AT THE OPERA
[1975]
On 'A Night At The Opera', Queen offer the whole package. There's hard rock, prog rock, camp, music hall and metal. On paper, fusing these styles would seem a recipe for disaster, but therein lies the unique power of Queen. The band not only pull the whole thing off, with an album brimming with an array of genres, but serve as a bridge between the polarity of heavy metal / hard rock and pomp. It's no wonder the group's music is still influential and timeless. Queen brazenly meander between seemingly disparate styles and deliver a classic album. This is the band's creative peak. It of course features the behemoth track "Bohemian Rhapsody". On "The Prophet's Song", Freddie Mercury channels Robert Plant. "You're My Best Friend" is Queen at its most radio-friendly. "Love Of My Life" is one of the group's most moving ballads. "'39" is further evidence of Queen's ability to master a variety of genres, with Brian May performing lead vocals. Highlight tracks: You're My Best Friend; Bohemian Rhapsody & '39.
