Celebrating
a century of
FRANK SINATRA
Francis Albert Sinatra was born in Hoboken, New
Jersey on December 12, 1915. At the time, World War I was raging.
He is one of the most significant music acts of
all-time; held in as high esteem as Elvis Presley and The Beatles. Sinatra became the first teen idol. He
pioneered the concept album. Despite changes in the public’s musical tastes,
Sinatra mastered swing, the sing era, and still managed to sell records after
the arrival of rock ‘n roll. The legendary vocalist developed his individual
style of interpreting songs. He also launched his own record label- Reprise.
Today,
this blog is celebrating 100 years of Frank Sinatra: a true music icon. There
will be hourly updates with a Sinatra track highlighted each time from a
special list of his noteworthy recordings in no particular order.
New
York, New York
Forever associated with Sinatra,he proved that in 1980, he could still deliver. Today it remains one of his best known songs. Liza Minnelli recorded the original version for the film 'New York, New York'. Sinatra and Minnelli performed the song live together.
