60 YEARS OF THE ROCK ERA. This update: 2005
60
YEARS OF
ROCK
(1955-2015)
2005
-Crowded House drummer Paul Hester suicides.
-Cream reunites for some London shows.
-Kylie Minogue is diagnosed with breast cancer.
-Michael Jackson is acquitted of child molestation charges.
-Eminem enters rehab.
-A concert to help victims of Hurricane Katrina is held.
-Kanye West makes his "Goerge Bush doesn't care about black people" controversial statement.
-Destiny's Child breaks up.
-J.D Fortune wins TV series "Rock Star" to become the new lead singer of INXS.
-Madonna is authorised to sample an ABBA song for her single "Hung Up".
-Elton John marries David Furnish.
-Mariah Carey earns her 17th US #1 single, equal to Elvis Presley's total. The Beatles have 20.
2005 saw Mariah Carey, whom many had written off, return with a massive smash hit in "We Belong Together". This was the year of the Live 8 concerts and the Make Poverty History campaign. As a sign of the times, a TV show is used to determine a new lead singer for INXS. New acts emerging this year included Rihanna, Chris Brown and LCD Soundsystem. John Legend broke through. It was also (sadly) the year of Crazy Frog!
