The definitive list of 200 songs from the movies, recorded by by rock & pop acts since the start of the Rock Era in 1955.

To be eligible, the songs need to have been first heard in association with a film from the last 60 years (although some exceptions do exist where the song gained a higher profile after its use in a motion picture)- so no songs from “West Side Story”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Les Miserables” or “The Sound Of Music” and other films that first started out as stage musicals.

 Giorgio Moroder produced and co-wrote the ballad from the action film 'Top Gun'. "Take My Breath Away" won the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Original Song. It flew to #1 in both the US and Britain.

(‘Live And Let Die’- 1973)

 

 'LIve And Let Die' saw the premiere of Roger Moore portraying 007. Wings became the 1st rock band to perform a Bond title song. George Martin produced the track. The song was nominated for an Academy Award (a rarity for Bond songs then). On the charts, it peaked at #2 in America and Canada. In Britain and Australia, the disc went Top 10.

'Ghostbusters' was more comedy than horror and its title song proved popular. Ever since, the catch cry "who you gonna call?" has lived on in pop culture. The song was written, performed and produced by Ray Parker Jr. The Oscar nominated song topped the charts in America, parts of Europe and Canada. It also peaked at #2 in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

 "How Deep Is Your Love" was the big ballad from the disco film 'Saturday Night Fever'. At discotheques, the song was played as couples slow danced to the Bee Gees track. It reached #1 in America and Canada; #3 in Britain and Australia.
