BRAVE: KATE CEBERANO
[1989]
Australian audiences first encountered Kate Ceberano as a member of the dance / funk group I'm Talking. She had also performed backup vocals on The Models' #1 "Out Of Mind, Out Of Sight". By 1989, Ceberano had recorded albums with her septet and a collaboration with Wendy Matthews. The next stage in her musical career was a pop solo album. This project was to be her debut as a soloist. For this album, she recorded remakes of songs by Stevie Wonder ("Higher Ground"), Aretha Franklin ("Since You've Been Gone") and The Commodores ("Young Boys Are My Weakness"). Her cover of The Reels' "Quasimodo's Dream" is a more accessible reading of the song. There are also originals, with the title track being one of the highlights, along with "That's What I Call Love", "Love Dimension" and the sexy "Bedroom Eyes". Courtney Pine shines on sax throughout the moving "Changing With The Years". The tracks selected cover a diverse range of moods and musical styles. The album peaked at #2 on the Australian chart. Ceberano continues recording and performing to this day.
Highlight tracks: Changing With The Years; Brave; That's What I Call Love & Bedroom Eyes.
