I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND
For many, the moment Beatlemania gripped the planet was with the release of "I Want To Hold Your Hand". The excitement of this youthful rock outfit that wrote its own compositions still lingers decades later. It inspired countless others to pick up an instrument or to sing and aim for their own music career. The song sparked a radical shockwave. It was written by both John and Paul. The Beatles recorded it in late 1963. In the UK, advance sales alone topped 1 million. It enjoyed a long run at the top there. In America, this was The Beatles' 1st #1 single, reigning for 7 weeks. It was replaced by the band's "She Loves You" and then "Can't Buy Me Love".

GIVE PEACE A CHANCE
(John Lennon) Plastic Ono Band
Lennon wrote the anti-war anthem while still a member of The Beatles. It served as his first solo release. The single was issued in 1969. On the charts, it fared well in Europe and reached #2 in Britain. In the US, it peaked at #14. The song will live on as an anthem for pacifists and those opposed to war and conflict.
