YESTERDAY
Arguably the best known Beatles song, "Yesterday" began with the working title "Scrambled Eggs". The tune came so easily to Paul that he was convinced it already existed.  He played the chords for others in an effort to ascertain if it was in fact an original tune. This 1965 song crossed over to a wider audience. Even critics of The Beatles found it hard to deny the beauty of this simple ballad. The recording was radical in the production touches added by George Martin, including the use of a string quartet. It remains the most covered of all the band's songs. Remakes have been recorded by more than 2000 different acts, ranging from Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones and The Supremes. The Beatles' version was featured on the 'Help!' soundtrack album.
LIVE AND LET DIE
Paul McCartney & Wings
007LALDsoundtrack73.jpgMcCartney wrote the title song for the 1973 film in the James Bond franchise, 'Live And Let Die'. It was a sonic delight ably produced by George Martin. In America, the single peaked at #2. It also reached the Top 10 in the UK, parts of Europe, Canada and Australia. It is still regarded as one of the best 007 film songs.
