THE BEST CHRISTMAS
SONGS EVER!
*8*
CHRISTMAS
(BABY PLEASE COME HOME)
Darlene Love
In 1963, Phil Spector applied his skills into a Christmas album. The only original track on the disc was “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”, which the legendary producer had co-written with Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. Darlene Love of The Crystals recorded it. The song was selected as the lead single from the X’mas parent LP. Both discs were suddenly withdrawn on the first day of release. On that same day, American President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. The mood of the nation had shifted, as grief swept the country. The song sat in the vaults for decades. It has made up for lost time since, evolving into a Yuletide staple.
