THE BEST CHRISTMAS
SONGS EVER!
*8*
THE CHRISTMAS SONG
(CHESTNUTS ROASTING ON AN OPEN FIRE)
Nat King Cole
This Christmas standard was penned on a hot day in 1946 by Mel Tormé and Robert Wells. They played “The Christmas Song” for some friends. Among this group was Nat King Cole. He loved the song and recognized its potential. Cole recorded the original version that same year and the single peaked at #3 on both the Pop and Soul charts. Cole revisited the classic a few times. It was also covered by Bing Crosby, Christina Aguilera, Marvin Gaye, Barbra Streisand, John Legend, Robbie Williams and- as recently as in 2020 - by Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello.
