THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE

It’s frightening to think that the failure of the duo’s 1965 debut album which contained the original folk interpretation of “The Sounds Of Silence” resulted in Simon & Garfunkel splitting up. Had the song not been ‘electrified’ by producer Tom Wilson, it may have faded into obscurity. The new 1966 rock version of the song elevated Simon’s status as a singer / songwriter. The disc was a global hit and became one of the duo’s signature songs. Simon’s lyrics still resonate to this day.
