Don Black had already co-written previous Bond theme songs as well as penning pop hits such as “Ben” for Michael Jackson and “Born Free” for Matt Monro. Lulu achieved a worldwide hit in 1967 with a song the English lyricist had helped create: “To Sir With Love”. She recorded the title song for ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’, which Black co-wrote with John Barry.
The film featured Roger Moore as 007, cast alongside Christopher Lee and Britt Ekland. 'The Man With The Golden Gun' was to be Ian Fleming’s final Bond novel prior to his death in 1964.
