In 1981, Blondie was one of the most popular bands in the world. The group had accumulated a string of hits that included #1s such as “Heart Of Glass”, “Atomic”, “Call Me”, “The Tide Is High” and “Rapture”.
On paper, matching hot band Blondie with a new Bond adventure seemed a sound idea. The plan was shelved when the parties could not agree. Blondie members Debbie Harry and Chris Stein had created a song for use in ‘For Your Eyes Only’. But composer Bill Conti (who had created “Gonna Fly Now” for the first ‘Rocky’ film) and lyricist Michael Leeson already a theme song in mind and insisted that Blondie had to record their ‘For Your Eyes Only’. Blondie refused. The song was then offered to Sheena Easton who sings it in the film’s opening sequence.
Blondie, meanwhile, included its own ‘For Your Eyes Only’ on the 1982 album ‘The Hunter’, still under the title shared with the 1981film which starred Roger Moore as James Bond. Mike Chapman produced the cut
