The much-lauded British group Radiohead was approached to submit a snmg for the 2015 Bond film ‘Spectre’. This opportunity came at a bad time, but the band halted work on its ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ album sessions. Radiohead offered a song entitled ‘Spectre’, using the name of the next instalment in the film franchise.
Group members were later informed that the song was “too dark” and that Sam Smith would be performing the opening song which was entitled “Writing’s On The Wall”.
Radiohead made its ‘Spectre’ available as a free download on Christmas Day 2015. Smith’s Bond song went on to make chart history and received various accolades.
