 GREATEST DRUMMERS

It’s hard to imagine any song with a driving beat without a drum kit powering the overall sound. This list pays tribute to the drummers whose work has had the greatest impact and influence on rock and pop music.

DAVE CLARK

Dave Clark was more than a drummer. He was a pivotal member of The Dave Clark Five, managing and producing the band as well as performing. With pop hits such as “Glad All Over”, “Bits And Pieces” and “Over and Over”, the group was one of the major acts to spark the ‘60s British Invasion in the U.S.A.

CARL PALMER

Prog rock drummer Carl Palmer raised his profile when he combined forces with Keith Emerson and Greg Lake. As a member of that superstar trio, he is best remembered for the titan track “Fanfare For the Common Man”. As well as his Emerson, Lake & Palmer era, he gained the respect of his peers as a member of The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Asia and Atomic Rooster.

MEG WHITE

The sound of contemporary rock has been influenced by Meg White’s back-to-basics style. This is most evident on a track such as “Blue Orchid”.

TAYLOR HAWKINS

A group revolving around legendary Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl would recognize the skills required to augment the sound of a band. Enter Taylor Hawkins. His enthusiasm for music saw him launch two side projects: The Coattail Riders and The Birds Of Satan.
