THE TIME CAPSULE: I'LL BE THERE. More retro tomorrow.
<<<THE T⏳ME CAPSULE<<<
I’LL BE THERE
The Jackson 5
1970
U.K. - #4; U.S.A. - #1
Trivia:
The Jackson 5 had topped the US Pop Chart with 3 upbeat singles. Berry Gordy Jr.'s instincts convinced the Motown President to follow up that trio with a ballad. Gordy had co-written "I'll Be There" which reached #1 in America in mid-October. It occupied the chart summit for 5 weeks. This feat broke 2 records: it became the group's biggest hit and Motown's best selling single up to that time.
The song returned to #1 in the U.S.A. in 1992 when Mariah Carey covered "I'll Be There" with Trey Lorenz. Her remake remained at the top for 2 weeks.
