IF I CAN’T HAVE YOU
Yvonne Elliman
1978
U.K. - #4; U.S.A. - #1
Trivia:
The Gibb brothers initially planned to give Yvonne Elliman the ballad "How Deep Is Your Love" to record for the 'Saturday Night Fever' film soundtrack. Their manager Robert Stigwood persuaded The Bee Gees to cut the song instead. Elliman was then given "If I Can't Have You" to record for the same soundtrack LP. Her hit became the fourth consecutive US #1 single co-written by Barry Gibb; following "Stayin' Alive" (4 weeks- Bee Gees), "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" (2 weeks- Andy Gibb) and "Night Fever" (8 weeks- Bee Gees).
