ALL THE EUROVISION COUNTRIES: (12). More: tomorrow.
Caffè ☕️Lattè looks back on:
ALL THE
EUROVISION
COUNTRIES
The Eurovision Song Contest was first held in 1956. Back then, only 7 countries participated. In the decades since, dozens of other nations have joined the ESC family. As Europe changed, countries faded into history as new countries and new names emerged. Eurovision itself has expanded beyond the European continent; to Africa, the Middle East and the Southern Hemisphere.
Our spotlight looks back on every country that has competed – in chronological order.
1959
The fourth Eurovision Song Contest saw the United Kingdom return, while Luxembourg declined to compete. A new participant debuted: the city-state Monaco. Cannes was the host city for the eleven competing compositions.
XII
MONACO
The small principality of Monaco’s first Eurovision entry finished in last place. It participated 21 times and achieved its only win in 1971 with Severine’s song “Un Banc, Un Arbre, Une Rue”.
Although Monaco continued to perform well following that victory, it withdrew from the Contest after its 1979 participation. In 2004, the city-state returned. By now, semi-finals had been introduced. After failing to qualify for a Grand Final spot for three consecutive years, Monaco declined to continue participating. Its absence continues to this day.
