IF I WERE YOUR WOMAN
“…You’re like a diamond,
but she treats
you like glass.
Yet you beg her to love you,
but me,
you don’t ask...”
"If I Were Your Woman" was issued in 1970 and became a Soul #1 single for the Motown group Gladys Knight & The Pips. The song is sung from the perspective of a woman who is in love with a man who has feelings for another. The other woman mistreats him. Knight's dramatic vocal pleads her case, explaining how she would never treat him the same way as her rival for his affection. Later, she reveals that she is "too afraid to show" her true feelings for him, so it seems that her love will go on unrequited.
As
new songs are covered on this blog, a definitive version will be added to a
