SUPERWOMAN
(WHERE WERE YOU
WHEN I NEEDED YOU)
“…When the winter came,
you went further
south,
parting from love’s nest,
leaving me in doubt.
Where are you when I need you,
like right now?...”
Stevie Wonder's lengthy track "Superwoman (Where Were You When I Needed You)" was included on his 1972 album 'Music Of My Mind'. His lyrics deal with changes in a relationship.
At the song's start, his partner Mary decides she wants to be a film star. The protagonist wishes she would stay, but supports her ambition. Mary pursues her dream, leaving him eagerly awaiting her return. Seasons come and go, but Mary does not come back to him.
As
new songs are covered on this blog, a definitive version will be added to a
