(YOU MAKE ME FEEL LIKE)
A NATURAL WOMAN
“…When my soul was in
the lost &
found,
you came along to claim it.
I didn’t know just what
was wrong with me,
Till your kiss
helped me name it...”
When Aretha Franklin unleashed the original recording of "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" in 1967, she delivered a soul classic. The instant radio staple was included on her 'Lady Soul' LP.
Its creation was inspired by a comment made by producer Jerry Wexler to the songwriting couple Carole King and Gerry Goffin. The latter 2 penned a timeless song in response and granted Wexler a co-writing credit.
Aretha's vocal injects a depth of realism into the lyrics, which deal with the salvation found from genuine love. The protagonist was aimless prior to the blossoming of romance. Now, with her partner, she has motivation and purpose.
King herself covered the song for her mega-selling 1971 album 'Tapestry'. many other artists have since recorded a remake of the R&B hit song.
As
new songs are covered on this blog, a definitive version will be added to a
spotify playlist. Find it and the other Caffé Latté playlists at:
