These songs are well known
but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with
prior versions of the same song.
Poor Poor Pitiful Me
Linda Ronstadt recorded "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" for her hit album 'Simple Dreams'. That LP was issued in 1977. The track was lifted as a single the following year.
Ronstadt's interpretation was a remake of a composition by singer/ songwriter Warren Zevon. He recorded the original version for his eponymous album which was released in 1976.
