Lady Gaga began life in 1986 as Stefani Germanotti. Growing up in New York City, the aspiring entertainer auditioned for musical theatre and TV shows. She appeared in an episode of the critically acclaimed TV series ''The Sopranos''. Eventually, Germanotti became the lead singer for a group before changing her name and pursuing a solo career in 2006.
Gaga's long wait for success finally bore fruit in 2008 when her debut album 'The Fame' was issued. The UK #1 disc featured the result of her collaboration with Swedish producer / songwriter RedOne. Lead single "Just Dance" broke the singer internationally. It reached #1 in America, the UK, Europe, Canada and Australia. Follow-up "Poker Face" did the same.
2009 saw Gaga frequently appear on the world's charts with a string of hit singles that included "Paparazzi", "Bad Romance", "Telephone" (a duet with Beyoncé) and "Alejandro". Her 'The Fame Monster' EP topped the British and Australian charts.
The 'Born This Way' album was unleashed in 2011, making #1 in America, UK, Europe, Japan, Argentina, Canada, Australia, Mexico and New Zealand. Its title track was an international chart-topping single.
In 2013, 'Artpop' was a #1 album in America and Britain. The following year, Gaga released an album of standards with Tony Bennett. Entitled 'Cheek To Cheek', the project was a US #1.
Gaga co-wrote "Till It Happens To You", an Oscar nominated song, with Diane Warren. It was featured in the 2015 documentary film 'The Hunting Ground'. She collected a Golden Globe for a recurring role in the TV series "American Horror Story".
Her 2016 album 'Joanne' returned Gaga to #1 in America and various other countries. It contained the singles "Perfect Illusion" and "Million Reasons".
