Elton John recorded "Tonight" for his 1976 double album 'Blue Moves'. Again, Bernie Taupin seems to have handpicked every word to suit the epic weight of the track.
The song finds a couple enduring strained relations. Each night, the 2 argue. The protagonist is hoping for 1 evening of silence, peace and a smile from his partner. Although there appears to be a sense of gloom and despair over the couple, his desire for that smile hints at the possibility of a rapprochment between them.
